At 3bits, a large part of the development we do is based on open source. Some of the open source projects we actively use are nopCommerce, React and .NET.
When you build e-commerce solutions with large amounts of products that also have a lot of text and properties that you want to be able to search among, then the requirements for the search engine you choose increase. To be able to provide lightning-fast and good search results to the customer, a high-performance and scalable search engine is required as a foundation of the solution. One solution we have chosen in several major customer projects is Elasticsearch.
With a SPA application, new possibilities open up to further speed up the response time and save processing power on the server. Single Page Application or SPA as we call it in everyday life, is really nothing new. Most people use it every day on, for example, Facebook, Instagram or Gmail. In e-commerce, however, it has not made an impact on a broad front yet and it is mainly in the slightly larger retailers that you find the exceptions.
When you walk past a store front in a store, you sometimes see something that you get stuck for. This even though the decorator has not done it for me. It could just as well be products that are not at all interesting to me that are displayed. In an online store, on the other hand, there are all possibilities to display a personal store front. The technology to achieve this in e-commerce is easily accessible and ready to be implemented today.
In June I got the opportunity to attend the NDC Conference and Workshop in Oslo. The atmosphere over there was magical. You feel like you are totally into some another world, where every hour, you are getting an opportunity to be with like-minded people and to listen to these imminent speakers.
During a few days in May, we attended MS Build in Seattle, a conference that sells out quickly. The schedule was full, and we want to share some of the things that we take with us.
Microservices is an architectonic concept that unlike the classical way to build a large-scale application that does it all, instead uses small components that does parts of a larger process. Microservices is in the center of events right now, and it was noticable at O’Reilly Software Architecture Conference in London.
What defines a modern app? Should work at the users units despite platform. Should be able to store data in the cloud in a secure way. Should minimize data traffic over the mobile network.
VS Live is a travelling conference in a regular basis providing a mix of sessions in web development, most in the Microsoft world, but not exclusively. Some of the sessions are about news and upcoming things, and others how to write code well, and what to have in mind when you as a developer come across problems.
