The fourth quarterly report in a row for the report E-barometern shows a positive development for e-commerce. As household consumption space becomes larger, e-commerce follows. But with an increasingly complex world around us, new opportunities arise with changed consumer behaviour.
Many now see that a turnaround could be underway in the second half of 2024 with more room for both individuals and businesses to increase consumption and investment. Focus areas in the report E-barometern Q1 are international trade, sustainability and circular trade.
Once again, a packed D-Congress in March where one day is not enough these days, the program started already after lunch on Wednesday. This year's theme was Innovation for impact, where sustainability issues, new technology, profitability focus, circular business models and logistics challenges for commerce came together on the various stages and on the exhibition floor.
Although e-commerce showed a negative growth of 2% for the full year 2023 according to the report E-barometern, e-commerce is now predicted to have come out of its worst crisis and is on the way to increased growth and increased parcel volumes going forward. The second half of 2023 was better than the beginning. Price-focused consumers and e-retailers who switch to profitability characterize e-commerce during the year.
